Ranma 1/2 - Outta Control, Vol. 8: Tattoo You [VHS]ReviewsSounds a little weird no? Well, in this movie he thinks he will be. Desperate to beat Ranma, Ryoga has a martial arts master tattoo his stomach with the image of the "battle god". It supposally makes him invincible against any opponant. It would be fabulous exept the fact that the tattoo shows up on p-chan too, and it doesn't look to "cool" to begin with. This movie is a hilarious continuation of the already long list of ranma movies! I loved it and give it 5 stars and two thumbs way up! Average Rating:![]() |

The Pillow BookReviewsThis is not the widescreen edition. It's a great movie but but the TV format lops off a lot of the great visuals. A rather exotic tale concerning Japanese calligraphy and its use in writing messages on the human body. If you are a fan of Peter Greenaway films, you will like this movie. But, it might not appeal to everyone. An incoherent story beatifully shot in Kyoto and Hong Kong. Wish I could make head or tail of it, although both are quite explicit! Ewan McGregor works hard for his money as a young sexual padawan (pedowan?) to a publisher sensei who pays royalties in a strange way ("Daddy said there'll be days like these; there'll be days like these, my Daddy said..."). Bottom line: Porno you can't understand, call it "art". This story is basically about a Japanese caligrapher woman (inherit from father which write wrods on body) and she later had a lover that have the same interest as her and had sex (with Jerome) and later he died ans finally she use ways to let one Japanese old man whom open book shop (whom is obbsessed by this body caligraphic work) die which is finally took her revenge and look after her new born child. Recommended to those whom are interested in this genre of film. The Pillow Book Review by: Dr, MR Franc MBBS (PhD) GPS Ang Poon Kah director Lou Ye - Ang Poon Kah for film summer palace. I've always viewed Peter Greenaway as a bit of an outlaw of sorts. There was a time where I tried to appreciate his movies but found them pretentious, boring, and even somewhat gratuitous. As I've matured I've begun to understand that the depth in most of his pictures is real and the meaning behind the visuals worthwhile, though sometimes I wished it would come with a guide. In other words, it isn't always easy to understand Greenaway's movies. Also, so very few of them are on DVD and I can't figure out exactly why. One of his most notorious movies of all time; The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, is on DVD but it's a hard one to get your hands on. Probably his most notorious movie to those who have seen it and know what it is, is the hate provoking Baby of Macon, and that one we may never see distributed appropriately. My favorite films of his are Prospero's Books and Drowning by Numbers and they are not available either. That leaves me to review one of his movies that is on DVD, isn't always appreciated among Greenaway fans, but is probably his most accessible film yet. Accessible, probably because it stars the hugely talented mainstream actor Ewen McGregor. The Pillow Book is a loose modernized telling of the memoirs of the same title written a thousand years ago by a woman who lived to serve a Japanese Empress. It follows Nagiko (Vivian Wu), a Japanese model exploring her cultural and sexual surroundings in modern Hong Kong. Jerome (Ewen McGregor), an English translator, is her favorite of multiple lovers. The two share their common interests in calligraphy, art, poetry, and mutual attraction. The betrayal they experience and the love they share is the superficial template for the first part of the film, but there are far more interesting things that develop as the film goes on. Talking about how the film progresses would reveal too many surprises but the story changes gears and focuses more on Nagiko's passion for her writing, which is really what she is most intensely devoted to at this point in the movie. Her father (Ken Ogata) influenced this passion back to when she was a child and her writings remained unpublished after being rejected by her father's rival, who, as the story treads forward seems to know how great her writing is. Greenaway's ability to understand and play with multi-cultural symbols is a key factor to the success of Nagiko as a character and his ability to mend her passions by the film's conclusion is a success in terms of the film's resolution. Some filmmakers make confusing and cryptic movies (i.e. Jodoworsky, David Lynch) but for the most part it doesn't seem like it is as intentional as it is with Greenaway's movies. He is a very imaginative director that seems to want to challenge the viewer to understand where he is coming from, for better or worse. If you like that kind of film and the summary I've provided above sounds interesting to you then I would recommend The Pillow Book. Some would say Greenaway's movies are an acquired taste and I would agree. However, if you find yourself enjoying one of them then almost all of them are worth checking out. Average Rating:![]() |

Peter Greenaway (The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Drowning by Numbers) continues to delight and disturb us with his talent for combining storytelling with optic artistry. The Pillow Book is divided into 10 chapters (consistent with Greenaway's love of numbers and lists) and is shot to be viewed like a book, complete with tantalizing illustrations and footnotes (subtitles) and using television's "screen-in-screen" technology... |

Tattoo ConnectionReviewsI've alway's been a Martial Art's,and action movie fan.Other than the greatest Bruce Lee,Jim Kelly's alway's been one of my favorite's.When I got the opportunity to get this movie I jumped on it.I also own Black Belt Jones, another cult classic. This movie is worth the purchase...you'll be glad you did.I've got a few more to $buy. Hello, I started buying up Jim Kelly films like crazy cuz they are very funny! Tattoo Connection is no exception and provides great entertainment for a group of mates to sit about with a few beers taking the PXXS out of it. Tattoo conection is offered with Black Belt Jones 2 (The Tattoo Connection) as a double buy from Amazon... they are the same film!!!! It was re packaged as black belt jones 2 to sell more copys but it is not realated sos tear clear if you have one or the other... B movie at it's best but KUNG FU. Black Belt Jones is back and HE is the one that is gonna take bruce's place. He got on the train and fell off quick, but Jim Kelly had a few pretty good movies. This is definitelyone of them. Add in Lee Hoi-sang, Dorian Tan(delon tan), Bolo, Sing Chen, tony leung sei hung ( a great action director) and a couple of other stars I can't put a name to, and you have a really alomst good kung fu flick. So some diamonds are stolen of course and Jim kelly shows up to track down the robbers. He says-"they call me the black 6 milion dollar man". AHHHHH the cheese, it is good cheese, but just liek anything, you can get too much of it. So save a litle for later if you need to, cause this is a classic and may take two sittings to get through the greatness of it. Sadly it gets REALLY borign at the midway point. So finally the ending comes around and is very unspectacular, but you do get 2 good fights, opne with jim and bolo, other with dorian tan and sing chen. All in all, worth a peek if you are a mega fan like me. And if you don't belieev me about the cheese, then here is the evry last line of the movie. "I'll see you on christmas". They may have finished this movie in 2 days time. For real. Pathfinder Pictures? Never heard of them. While I'm pleased this movie was released on DVD, I am very disappointed with the overall picture and sound quality. This is one of the worst video transfers I have ever seen and the sound is not far behind. Obviously no money went into restoring this movie for its release on DVD and that's too bad for Jim Kelly fans. Make no mistake; this movie has nothing to do with the martial art's classic Black Belt Jones. Jim Kelly had a supporting role in "Enter the Dragon" and he didn't really get a chance to show us what he could do with his ability. In "The Tattoo Connection" he is the man, but once again this movie doesn't really showcase his martial arts talent either. I struggled to give this movie a 3 star rating but hey it's Jim Kelly. This is a typical 1970's chop socky movie that could have been much better. For martial arts and Kelly fans the fight scene between Kelly and Bolo Yeung is still exciting to watch. The Tattoo Connection is still an entertaining movie, but I definitely think the price is too much considering the poor picture and sound quality from Pathfinder. On the DVD Interactive menus Scene access Filmographies Trailer Audio commentary by cinema critics Luke Y. Thompson and Gregory Weinkauf Still gallery Languages: English, Mandarin Chinese On/off subtitles This typical Hong Kong 1970's kung fu flick has now been re-released as BLACK BELT JONES 2, although originally released as THE TATTOO CONNECTION.Obviously the distributers have called it BBJ2 to tie in with the popularity of the original movie. This movie is no BBJ but it's quite entertaining if you are a Kelly fan.The film is let down by a scene where a rather choppy fight scene goes horribly wrong, the illusion is ruined and the fight looks fake. What's more, Jim Kelly is hardly in this movie and looks a bit of a fool surrounded by all those unknown Chinese actors. Shoujyo - An AdolescentReviewsThis is a well-acted and well-photographed movie. And Yoko, the main heroine, is so charming, that she would turn a saint to be a flaming pervert. She should go far in her acting courrier. Shoujyo - An Adolescent a young girl makes advances with an older man .At first you think they are from a different world but soon you will notice what brings them together.A warm and funny film mixed wiht erotic and adventure.I like the tatoo scene of the young girl ,if I would have the skills I did it my self... Directing his first and only feature film, Japanese movie star Eiji Okuda made an unabashed vanity film. He cast himself as the ultimate man's man, a former gangster, complete with full yakuza tattoo, who reformed and has become a small-town police officer. Of course, beneath his brusque exterior beats a heart of gold, shown by how he spends his free time taking care of a local teenage retarded boy. He is a man so completely dripping with sex-appeal that he can't even return a missing dog without the happy owner insisting that he come in for a little afternoon delight. This poor guy is so tired out by refreshing the housewives that he tries to have a quiet rest and a beer in a local bar. Ah, but even it is too much for the ladies, as a cute 15-year-old jr. high school girl soon plops down at his table and introduces herself with the line "Hey Mister! You up for some sex?" Its a hard life indeed. "Shoujyo - An Adolescent" is ostensibly based on a short story by Mikihiko Renjo, but it plays off as more of a soft-core "Lolita" clone. The story line is full of coincidences. Okuda soon begins a relationship with the 15-year old Yoko, and finds that she is the brother of his little retarded pal. On top of that, Yoko's grandfather is the one that gave him his tattoo many years ago. Yoko's mother, of course, demands sex from Okuda when she uncovers the relationship with her daughter, and Okuda willingly sacrifices himself, soon bedding both mother and daughter. None of the characters are even slightly realistic, with Yoko being little more than a fanciful image of youthful beauty and a middle-aged man's wish fulfillment. The only redeeming feature of "Shoujyou" is that it is well-filmed. The story is shallow, but the pictures are pretty and so are the girls that Okuda trysts with. As a soft-core pink film with a lolita theme, there are certainly worse movies out there. Just don't set your expectations too high. This Lolita-esque romantic drama adapted from a book by Mikihiko Renjyo was okay. This film could've been edited to say 90 minutes instead of 122 minutes due to some unnecessary elongated scene. Even though this is another controversial film I can't help but to think that this is part of the actor/director fantasy or fetish. In here we have Tomokawa (Okuda) as a tough guy turned bored cop who spends much of his time sating lonely housewives and looking after the mentally challenge teen Sukemasa. One day while hanging out at a bar, he is approached by a 15-year-old enjo kosai named Yoko, offering a round of illicit sex in exchange for cash. Though he demurs, their paths cross again and soon a relationship of sorts forms. Yoko, it turns out, is Sukemasa's sister; and both are the children of his old flame Yukie (Marie Natsuki), a grasping, self-centered woman. Moreover, Yoko's grandfather is responsible for the massive tattoo sprawling across Tomokawa's back. Tomokawa soon takes both teens under his wing, protecting them from their heartless mother, and their lecherous stepfather. Soon, Yoko gets a similarly massive tattoo illustrating her bond with her policeman savior. I felt that all the characters and relationships between them were very well thought out but I feel Mayu Ozawa gave the strongest performance except when she was asked to idolize the indolent cop in front of camera. There are some steamy scenes in the beginning but falls short towards the end. The cinematography is just as fine as well as the plot. I recommend this to those who enjoy thought provoking foreign films. Average Rating:![]() |

Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin CreamReviewsBeen using a steroid cream for years for eczema - not good, so I tried this and it worked! Just check with your doctor about it. I've never seen a cream soften and moisturize quite so quickly. Not only do you need a tiny amount of this slightly summery lemon colored cream, it seems to last for hours. What impresses most about this cream is the skin softening properties. Use this on your hands to see dramatic results instantly. Ingredients include Vitamin E, Vitamin B and Camphor. The camphor scent is very mild and they say you can use this on your face. I mostly use this for my hands and for cuticle care. Works especially well on feet and the cooling sensation is very pleasant. Recommended for when you participate in winter sports. Sumiyo Tsuzuki, a mountain climber, appears in IMAX Everest wearing a tube of this product taped to a shoelace around her neck. She used this product and if it works to protect skin against the weather on Mt. Everest, imagine how healing it will be for daily use. A must-have cream for when you are exposed to harsh wind or cold. If you enjoy this product, also look for Miss Oops Pedicure in a Bottle or the Derma E Hand Crème Age Reversal Formula for Youthful Hands. The Yu-Be Medicated Cream seems to enhance all other skincare products. The softening products are especially impressive. ~The Rebecca Review Average Rating:![]() |
